DESIGN DIFFERENCE : The offset design (differing from the standard ‘straight’ design) means the castor angle is increased without the need for removing any metal from off of the tie bar shoulder.
Being offset the castor angle is increased without the need for removing metal from off of the tie bar shoulder. When you remove some of the metal from off of the shoulder on the tie bar you increase the castor angle, but this then has the adverse effect of narrowing the front track. Due to the suspension design, the bottom arm moves in a radius as it is still fixed to one point at the chassis.
The idea with the uniball is that the top locking nut is there to stop the pin pulling through the hub carrier. Motorsport is tough and can find weaknesses in suspension, there have been cases of suspension failures because the m8 pinch bolt has become loose, elongated the hole and the pin passed through. This can happen to Nova’s, Corsa’s and Peugeot 205’s.
